Domestic Violence & Anger Management Services
Domestic Violence Batterers Intervention Program (BIP)
In compliance with IC 35-50-9-1, the Batterers Intervention Program (BIP) at Life Recovery Center is State-Certified through the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV). Our BIP strives to educate individuals on integrity and other inherent skills to improve their relationships with themselves and others. We offer gender-specific classes for both men and women.
We utilize the Cognitive Accountability Training (CAT) model, which is evidence-based and approved for use by the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence. CAT is designed to challenge and address the abuser's values and beliefs in order to help them recognize the underlying causes of their abuse. The program teaches individuals healthy non-violent behaviors and requires them to actively practice these actions on a weekly basis. The victim's safety and well-being are the underlying purposes of the BIP.
Cognitive Accountability Training complies with the most current research in evidence-based programming. It is specifically designed to effectively address all types of abuse, including but not limited to; physical abuse, verbal abuse, emotional abuse, psychological abuse, domestic violence, and child abuse. CAT is a truly innovative cognitive approach for educating in regards to abusive behavior.
PROGRAM CERTIFICATION & OVERSIGHT
As a Batterers Intervention Program certified by the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence, our program is monitored on a regular basis by an ICADV-Certified Victim Advocate. The advocate helps to ensure that our program is following the standards and protocols set forth by ICADV, and that victim safety is at the forefront of our class sessions.
We have classes for going on throughout the week at ALL FIVE of our locations. We also offer weekend classes. What this means for our clients is that if one particular group location or time is inconvenient, they have the option to attend another group. For example, if a client typically attends on Saturday mornings but is going out of town for the weekend, they have the option to attend on Monday evening, Thursday morning, etc. Having groups going all week long throughout Indianapolis and in Nashville, IN ensures that clients have the ability to fit our program around a busy schedule!
Our standard Batterers Intervention Program is 26 sessions in length. A 52-week module is also available. The cost is $35 per class. If you pay at the time of service, you receive a $5 discount; making the cost $30 per class. Classes last 90 minutes in length. You will meet 1x/week for 26 weeks. Please note that due to limited availability our Saturday morning classes are $40 per class. If you pay at the time of services, you receive a $5 discount; making the cost $35 per class.
Disclaimer: As with any program, the BIP has its limitations and should not be considered as a "cure," or erroneously assumed that the abuse will stop or the abuser will change. Every participant of the program is responsible for their own change and any improvement should be examined carefully.
Anger Management Program
Anger is a completely normal, usually healthy, human emotion. But when it gets out of control and turns destructive, it can lead to problems—problems at work, in your personal relationships, and in the overall quality of your life. It can make you feel as though you're at the mercy of an unpredictable and powerful emotion. The goal of anger management is to reduce both your emotional feelings and the physiological arousal that anger causes. You can't get rid of, or avoid, the things or the people that enrage you, nor can you change them, but you can learn to control your reactions. Our program utilizes a evidence-based curriculum approved by the State of Indiana.
We have classes for going on throughout the week at all four of our Indianapolis Office locations.
Our Anger Management Program is 12 sessions in length. The cost is $30 per class. Classes are one-hour in length. You will meet 1x/week for 12 weeks.
Ongoing Alumni Support
After successful completion of their initial classes, alumni of our BIP and anger management programs have the option of attending additional classes free of charge. This is an option offered as a way to provide ongoing support to our clients as needed.
Specific questions about our Domestic Violence and/or Anger Management programs should be directed to our Co-Executive Director, Tom Prendergast, LCAC, BIP-SF.
